In July of 2022, Angela and I worked a San Diego graphic recording event for StarRez, Inc. StarRez, a software company founded in Melbourne, Australia, held their 2022 Global Connect conference in San Diego, CA.
The day began inside a huge event hall with hundreds of active users of the StarRez software, a resident and property management platform, present and ready.
The first session had 4 speakers and lasted about 1.5 hrs. It started off with a general welcome from SDSU’s John Godfrey. After the introduction, the content began with StarRez CEO, Travis Knipe offering some big picture thoughts and news on the software and it’s future. Next, Rafe Hart, VP of Security for StarRez, shared thoughts on Cyber Crime and related topics. Then, the general keynote session wrapped up with American University’s Ryan Cohenour sharing his thoughts, recollections, and challenges that arose while using StarRez inside a university with 16,000 beds to fill!
The day continued with several shorter sessions that averaged around 45 mins apiece. After a short break following the general main keynote session, Steve Horner and Richie Kenney invoked Dilbert as their muse as they talked about the common reporting mistakes to avoid while using StarRez’s software.
Next, Tyler Murphy of Seattle University talked about his experience using StarRez with the student population.
Following that, Adam Cairns of Yale University, gave a nice technical chat about how to design reports using Report Generator and it’s possibilities combined with StarRez’s software.
And the day wrapped up for Angela and I when we recorded our final but brief talk given by Megan McWade of StarRez. She explored the possibilities of StarRez when using it for tracking, even for use with animal occupancies too!
Our full, one-day event working with StarRez was fun! It was both formal and educational and light and playful. We enjoyed our time on location and the team at StarRez made us feel welcome as we recorded several of the day’s sessions.
Thanks for reading!
